Event: Remixing the Classics Conference (9 August, 2022)

Remixing the Classics

A free, one-day, online conference exploring digital adaptations of classic literature, drama, and more, sponsored by the Association of Adaptation Studies

9 August 2022, 09:15 – 17:45 BST

What does the adaptation of literary and dramatic classics look like in an increasingly digital age? How might mixed and virtual realities, immersive and multimedia environments, videogames and creative applications of social media rewrite canonical texts in ways that are provocative and illuminating, but potentially also reductive and limiting? Join us for this one-day, online, free conference on digital adaptations of canonical texts, co-sponsored by the Association of Adaptation Studies and the Remixing the Classics network. Discussions and papers from the day will feed into a special issue on digital adaptations from the journal Adaptation.

The conference will take place on Zoom and live, automated captions will be available. Sign-language interpreting is available on request, subject to interpreter availability. Please contact the organisers, Deborah Cartmell (djc@dmu.ac.uk), Erin Sullivan (e.sullivan@bham.ac.uk), and Beth Sharrock (e.a.sharrock@bham.ac.uk), with any questions or requests.
